SSHRC has awarded $328,774 to Dr. Janis Thiessen for the second iteration of the Manitoba Food History Project, MFHP2.

MFHP2 integrates a wide variety of areas of scholarly study that too often are approached from disciplinary silos: business and labour studies; the digital humanities; oral and public history. The MFHP2 Team will produce four key outputs:

1. a peer-reviewed co-authored monograph on the history of sugar in Manitoba, accompanied by a digital ArcGIS map;

2. a collection of oral histories, to be archived at the University of Winnipeg Oral History Centre with complete transcripts, indexes, summaries, and metadata;

3. a new season of Preserves: The Manitoba Food History Podcast; and

4. a food memoir / autofiction novel.
